Portia Biography


Portia C. Allen, MA, serves as RWAMREC’s Institutional Development Advisor. She has worked with the RWAMREC team since October 2010. In addition to her RWAMREC duties and responsibilities, Ms. Allen leads also a research triad within Emory University’s Transforming Community Project for oral history interviews and archival investigation on Emory’s first African students. Formerly, Ms. Allen was a Program Coordinator for the Mentorship Program of the International Association of National Public Health Institutes in Emory’s Global Health Institute and a Program Administrative Assistant at Emory's School of Medicine. Ms. Allen has volunteered with Emory student-led organizations and professional-based programs such as the Carter Center, Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program, Office of Multicultural Programs/Services, and the Emory Global Health Organization. Currently, she collaborates with organizations and individuals engaged in global education and public health initiatives; and she is a Volunteer Committee member with Voluntary Service Overseas Rwanda. Some of her strengths include coordination, facilitation, writing and editing with a major interest in community mediation and technical writing. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Modern International Studies from the University of Leeds and a Bachelor of Arts degree in History & Geography from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University
